traffic separation

introduction

Business traffic in the LIC is carried by two data networks to provide HA. Administrative traffic is kept separate from business traffic by adding a third data network to the LIC.

what it is

Figure 1 shows the two networks to provide HA for business traffic.

Not all traffic contains business information. Administrative communication, such as backups, support team access and health checks, creates a lot of traffic. This traffic must not be allowed to clog the business networks. Customer service should not suffer because of administrative traffic.

Administrative traffic is kept seperate from business traffic by adding a third data network to the LIC, named adm01.

All three networks (biz01, biz02 and adm01) have the same topology.

Adding an administrative network to the LIC means three sets of network hardware: two for the HA network and one for administration. The network topography contains three set of cables, ethernet switches and sets of NICs.

Figure 2 shows more magic black lines. Administration traffic is kept seperate from business traffic. It goes down different cables, through a different switch and through a different firewall.
