Lots of base units with lots of KVM sets take up far a lot of room. One KVM switch can provide an interface for many base units.

A KVM switch is the central component of a KVM network. It has nothing to do with an ethernet switch.

what it is

KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) is the interface between a person and an IBM PC. This set of three pieces of hardware is attached to one base unit.

Lots of base units with lots of KVM sets take up far a lot of room. One KVM switch can provide an interface for many base units. One KVM set is attached to the LIC's KVM switch and the switch is attached to all the base units.

An old KVM switch has PS/2 sockets for the keyboard and mouse. A new one has USB (Universal Serial Bus) sockets.
